KINDERGARTEN NEWSLETTER

 

READING

We are reading a social studies book about transportation this week. It is called On the Go. We will use this book to teach the sound of o, classify vehicles as modes of transportation, recognize nouns, review high frequency words, and recognize the main idea of a story. Look for homework this week.

MATH

We are working on telling time to the hour and half hour. We will finish this unit today, but will keep practicing our skills on our clock in the classroom. You can help at home by pointing out the clock when it is on the hour and half hour and ask your child what time it is. Practice will keep this skill fresh in their minds.

RELIGION

Our topic this week is how Jesus is a good friend to us and is with us all the time. Homework was sent home last evening. Please brush up the prayers your child learned this year. We will begin end of the year testing next week.

DATES TO REMEMBER

FIELD DAY-WED. MAY 13TH- ALL DAY

This is a fun day of games. Your child has been placed on a team that consists of every grade from kindergarten to eighth. Your child should have a filled water bottle that day with their name on it. They should also wear their team colors.

KINDERGARTEN NEWSLETTER

 

READING

We will read the story, Ginger, to teach the following skills of recognizing that pets need care, cause and effect, the sound for the vowel I, recognizing that a questioning sentence begins with a capital letter and ends with a question mark, reviewing high frequency words, and blending sounds together to make words. Look for reading homework Tuesday through Thursday afternoons.

MATH

We will continue to work on numbers to 100. We will also solve problems by summarizing, talk about probability, count by 10's and 5's. We will also learn how to use a 100 number chart to tell what number comes before and after. Look for homework Tuesday through Thursday.

RELIGION

Jesus wanting us to love others is the topic for this week's religion class. Look for homework on Thursday afternoon.

Kindergarten Newsletter

 

READING

We will read the story, No, No, Titus, to teach the skills of recognizing the author and illustrator, recognizing the sound for the letter n, listening for a purpose, following text from left to right, and segmenting  and blending words. Please add these words to your list at home.....big, in. Please add the word family of an: an, ban, can, fan, man, pan, ran, tan, van. Look for books to come home every evening this week, but not Friday.

MATH

We have begun the unit of numbers to 100. I am sending home a 100 chart to help your child see the pattern of numbers and to give them a place to look when they want to know how a number looks.Look for homework every evening this week, but not Friday.

RELIGION

Our unit this week is about how Jesus is a teacher and helper. We will also stress how much Jesus loves children. Look for homework on Thursday evening.

CLASS NEWS

Just a friendly reminder with spring quickly approaching, that it is important for your child to have enough sleep to function well at school. We need bright, shiny, eager faces in Kindergarten!

Kindergarten Newletter

 

READING

We will read Lily's Purple Plastic Purse this week. We will work on cause and effect, recognizing telling sentences, recognizing high frequency words, and the sound for the letter P. Look for homework on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. Please at the -at family to your word list.  at, bat, cat, fat, hat, mat, pat, rat , sat. Please practice these words at least three times a week.

MATH

We will test over the numbers to 20 this week. Please work on counting by 2's at home with your child this week. We will then move quickly through numbers to 50. Look for homework Monday through Thursday afternoons.

RELIGION

We will talk about how Mary, Jesus, and Joseph are the Holy Family and how they loved and took care of each other. Look for homework on Thursday afternoon.

KINDERGARTEN NEWSLETTER

 

READING

We are continuing with Cat's Colors. Look for the C book to come home on Tuesday afternoon and I Like Cam! to come home on Thursday afternoon. Please add the words like and is to your list of high frequency words to practice.

MATH

We are counting, writing, identifying and representing numbers to 20. We will work on solving problems by using pictures. Look for homework Tuesday through Thursday afternoons.

RELIGION

We will talk about how God's greatest gift to us is Jesus. Homework will be in their folders on Thursday afternoon. We are working on the memorization of the Our Father prayer.

Kindergarten Newsletter

 

READING

 We are reading Bunny Cakes to teach the skills of cause and effect, recognizing the sound of a in  both the beginning and middle of words. We will work on listening and following directions and recalling sequence in a story. You can help at home by reviewing letter sounds and sight words. Reading to your child helps to heighten their anticipation of learning to read.

Math

 We are continuing to work on numbers zero to ten. We are working on the concept of more and less, using the words first, next, last and counting backward from ten to one. We should test over this chapter this week.

RELIGION

 We have discussed how our friends are a gift from God and that we should treat them as well as we want to be treated. We will also discuss how much Mary loves God and that she was the mother of His Son.

CLASS NEWS

 Library is on Thursday. Last week I forgot and taught through library time. I apolgize for that. I know how much the children like going to the library for new books.

 We had a great time at Mission Carnival. A big thank  you goes out to you for supporting this fundraiser for the Juvenile Diabetes Association.

Kindergarten Newsletter

 

READING

We will be reading Follow the Leader this week to teach the following skills: matching print to speech, recognizing sequence, writing with verbs, recognizing the sound of f, and identifying characters in a story. Please add the words I and am to the sight vocabulary list you already have.

MATH

We will practice counting and identifying numbers to ten. We will make a table to solve problems and use the words more or less to compare numbers to ten. We will also work with ordinal numbers - first, second, third, etc.

CLASS NEWS

This is Catholic Schools Week and just a friendly reminder of events happening this week. Today was red, white and blue day. Those children that have firefighters and policeman as family members shared lunch with them.

Bible Trivia will be on Tuesday afternoon.

Mass will begin our Wednesday. We will play cake bingo and Father Bill will entertain us with his accordian.

Thursday is the Mission Carnival. There will be games, good things to eat and drink, and things to buy. The money made from the carnival will go to the Jevenile Diabetes Organization.

Friday will be the crazy sock day, ice cream social and sock hop.

It sounds like a fun school week ahead.

KINDERGARTEN NEWLETTER

 

READING

We will use the book, Follow the Leader, to teach the skills of recognize sequence, relate story to personal experience, match print to speech, recognize the sound of f, identify high frequency words and make rules for working in small groups.

MATH

We will work with the numbers to 10 as well as comparing numbers using the words more and less, gather information for a graph and using the number line. Look for homework every afternoon except Friday.

RELIGION

We will talk about the gift of our five senses. Look for homework on Thursday afternoon. The homework is the family page on the back of the packet.

SCIENCE

We will begin a unit on the five senses this week.

KINDERGARTEN NEWSLETTER

 

READING

 Dinner at the Panda Palace is our story for this week. We are working on the letter t and its' sound. Distunquishing between words and letters, identifying characters, recognizing verbs, using prewriting strategies and reviewing high frequency words are skills we will work on this week. Our homework for this week will be  Triceratops. Please add the words at and can to their sight vocabulary words to practice at home.

MATH

We are working on writing, counting and identifying the numbers zero through ten. We will also use the skill of compare and contrast to solve problems. We will also review picture graphs.

RELIGION

 We will talk about how God made each of us special and loves each of us as we are. Look for family page to share together, sign and return to school.
